Exploring new opportunities
Experienced educator looking to learn more about sustainability and share experiences with others.
I have been a teacher for 15 years, a career which I absolutely love. Teaching allows me to be creative whilst making a real difference - what more could you ask for?
Why am I not teaching just now? Well, in 2020 my husband had an incredible opportunity to work in Switzerland. So…during the height of the pandemic my family and I decided to embrace this opportunity. We left our home in Scotland to begin our new Swiss chapter. Switzerland did not disappoint. It is the most incredible country! We embraced the opportunity to learn the language, experience the culture, taste the food as well as explore the stunning Alpine scenery; it was truly inspiring. For me, what stood out most was how the Swiss worked in harmony with their environment and preserved nature - grasses were left in Spring to grow until the bees had the opportunity fully utilise them, we ate with the seasons, we used public transport or cycled in preference to driving. These values resonated with me. I am passionate about preserving our planet and have instilled these values in my own children. At home we take a pride in recycling, upcycling, reducing our carbon footprint and encouraging biodiversity in our garden.
On our return to Scotland this summer I found myself at a crossroads. To continue with my much loved career or explore new opportunities? I decided to see if I could combine my two passions, teaching and sustainability. This blog is my first real step into this unchartered journey…
