Insulation, insulation, insulation!

We met with our architect and discussed our hopes for our home, we feel so lucky to know that we are in such safe hands. Not only does he have many years of experience and expertise but he has just built is own low carbon home with all the sustainable energies on our wish list…and ones we didn’t even know about! There is so much to learn on this journey.

I digress!! Insulation. So, today we learned that for our heat source pump to work most efficiently our home needs to be fully insulated. Our exisiting cavity wall insulation will not suffice. Naively, I also learned that our flooring downstairs is straight onto the joists with a one foot gap to the sandy earth below. Who knew? Everyday is a school day.

What does this mean in real terms for us? We will need to add an additional 80mm internally on all external walls and the downstairs floors need to be insulated. This will mean that we will need to move out whilst the work is getting done. So I have added to the ever evolving to do list to find accomodation. Kids have suggested our tent…let’s see :-)
