More green energies…
At the moment our sustainable journey is really exciting. There are so many green technologies out there, my husband and I are feeling a wee bit like a couple of kids in a sweetie shop. I really hope that my blog will inspire others to look into these incredible resources and see if it is possible to make changes too - most appropriate for their own circumstances.
Our architect introduced us to another option to reduce our carbon footprint in our home; a heat recovery system. A heat recovery system (also called a HRV or MVHR) draws the extracted air from within your home and passes it into the air which is being filtered in from outside. In real terms, it is reusing valuable warm air within the home in a postive way. For example, the heat created from cooking and showering is filtered and recirculated. The resulting efficiency not only lowers your carbon footprint, your heating costs but also has health benefits as it improves the quality of air in your home. For us, another significant benefit is that it reduces moisture in the home, an important consideration as we are adding an internal layer of insulation to every wall which meets with an external wall.
It is fair to say that we are onboard with the suggestion but in reality, it will come down to costs and where and how to house the system, pipes, vents and ducts. Our next step is to speak with Home Energy Scotland to discuss funding, as our pot is rapidly depleting and we are still only as the planning stage.
